Singapore, 9 June 2003 – GRID announced the bilateral international roaming service with Nextel Communications, a leading provider of fully integrated wireless communications in USA.

The introduction of GRID international roaming on PhoneConnect allows the business partners, colleagues, family and friends to remain in contact on the same PhoneConnect number, using the same GRID phone in USA.

Today, GRID handset is more than a two-way radio and a mobile in Singapore, it now allows the users to build business while overseas.

According to Mr Tan Teck Chye, Sales and Marketing Director of Digital Network Access Communications (DNA Comms) said, “We are pleased to come into roaming agreement with the largest iDEN network operator, Nextel. iDEN customers in Nextel are huge and they used it mainly for business purposes. And accordingly to our partners, most of their customers are largely businessmen who need to travel very extensively. With the recent research that they have collected, Singapore is one of the frequent countries they will visit. Hence with our roaming, they can now eliminate the hassle of bringing two mobile phones. In other words, with the same Nextel phone, they can now roam in Singapore. Likewise for our customers going over to USA.”

He added, “We also see the benefits of promoting roaming service to the expatriates largely the Americans staying here. Especially iDEN phone is widely used in USA, they not only can use our DirectConnect one-to-one service to instant connect to their family members in Singapore, they can have the luxury of bringing the same GRID phone back to their homeland to remain in contact with their love ones. Hence to move forward, the Americans is an important customers to us. In the next few months, we will have a series of events and advertisements reaching out to the Americans. ”

USA will be GRID first roaming partner. Following shortly will be partners in The Philippines and Israel. In time to come, customers can look forward for a worldwide coverage to be contacted on the same PhoneConnect number wherever they are.
