National Day Parade 2004 This year’s National Day Parade show promises to wow the crowds. Highlights include three Chinook helicopters escorting the National Flag fly-past and six new types of fireworks. To ensure the activities run smoothly, a mix of voce communication s are being used. These include fixed phone lines, nearly 650 sets of trunk repeater walkie-talkies and even military-class secured wireless systems. The devices are being used for the timely execution of activities such as cueing the 10,000-strong participants to enter the stadium or for the lightning of the fireworks. Lieutenant Colonel Lee Tin Hua said the communications set-up cost nearly $1 million which included sponsorship from GRID. - extracted from Computer Times, 28 July 2004
